GAGO COUTINHO 81
Lisboa, Portugal 2024
The design of this housing development’s garden seeks to create a cohesive overall image in which the boundaries between common and private areas appear to emerge spontaneously.
From the street frontage, a sequence of pedestrian paths is proposed, defined by pavements integrated within a green matrix, that become continuous near the buildings. Vehicular access to the shared garage begins on a paved area and transitions into a grass-covered surface over structural grids, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscaped areas.
The courtyard on the south side of the existing building is preserved, functioning as the paved core of the communal areas. It interconnects several pedestrian paths and provides access to a larger shared green space with a lawn suitable for informal sports (such as volleyball). Each house includes a private garden area with small pools and solariums, either paved or unpaved, framed by clusters of herbaceous and shrub vegetation that provide spatial definition and visual enclosure.
