JUNÇA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Oeiras, Portugal 2023
The design of the outdoor spaces surrounding the Junça Housing Development aims to create a balanced transition between the exterior areas of the new buildings and the consolidated urban surroundings, ensuring a coherent and unified spatial reading. The proposal seeks to harmonize ground levels, pavement types, and functional uses, generating fluid permeability between public outdoor spaces and privately owned outdoor spaces with public access.
Three typologies of pathways/zones are proposed:
• Peripheral pedestrian sidewalks, proposed to continue using limestone cobblestone paving consistent with the surrounding context, covering the circulation routes at the east and west ends and along the southern edge of the development.
• Meandering pedestrian access routes, composed of concrete steps and stabilized gravel platforms, located within landscaped embankment areas to overcome the height difference between Av. Duque de Loulé and R. Quinta da Maruja, connecting the new residential building with R. João Chagas.
• Mixed pedestrian and cycling strip, designed with a comfortable concrete slab pavement, to extend into the public-use outdoor areas of the housing development.
